Psalm 86
8 Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. 9 All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name. 10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God.
Daily Devotional
v.8. Like in the day of King David, there are many gods today. Perhaps school or work is your god; working out or watching television; sleeping or eating; you may be your own god. However, also like in the day of David, there are gods all over the world that people fall down to worship. All of these gods have something in common: none of them created the world, and none of them are like the God of the universe whom we serve. God has created things and performed miracles that are incomparable. He created the human heart so delicately and the human mind so complexly. Among all "gods" or "deities" in all the universe, there is none capable of creating something from nothing other than the God we serve.
v.9. Though there are nations and religions that do not serve the Lord, there will come a day that "every knee will bow" (Rom 14:11). We have the privilege to worship God now with the freedom we have in Christ. We aren't forced to worship him, but we choose to based on his unfathomable greatness and his perfect love.
v.10. God alone is God. Though many other gods claim deity, and many people worship other idols and gods, there is only one God who is God. He calls himself I AM, and his spare time consists of inventing the universe, forming starts, speaking to the oceans, and determining how many billions of galaxies he should continue to permit into existence. He is God, and he is worthy.
Daily Challenge
Think through what things in your life have been vying for the top position in God's place. Consider how you can place God in the utmost priority of your heart, and remember all the reasons he deserves to be number one. He has been doing marvelous deeds in your life since the moment you were born and before, since before the invention of time.
